Theme for June: Unity
Memorial Day reminds us of loyalty to country. Loyalty in relationships and affiliations increases unity within the nucleus of any group. I had heard about an incident a few years ago where a young person decided to quit playing for a youth sports team. After quitting he threatened his former teammates, “I’m keeping the playbook and giving it to another team.” This created quite a stir among the players. The other kids on the team felt angry, deserted and betrayed. The coach caught wind of the threat and confiscated the manual. Taking information and giving it to someone outside the accepted circle is like going behind enemy lines.
Loyalty is spurred on by love yet it is a quality that needs training. Talk with your kids about how to build up family unity by functioning like a team. Family loyalty builds family unity. All for one and one for all!
